Kelli + Kelley: Engaged!

Having dated since their first year at the University of Redlands, there couldn't possibly have been a more appropriate place for Kelli & Kelley's engagement session. I was really excited to photograph Kelli & Kelley at the University of Redlands because 1) I went to college there too, and 2) I knew the campus architecture would be an beautiful backdrop. It was fun to walk across campus Kelli & Kelley, reminiscing about Redlands & trying to remember our old mailbox numbers and combinations. (My mailbox was Q303 ... but the combination long escapes me!)

Kelli & Kelley - You both did a great job, and I can't wait for your big day in October! =)

I should have known better than to say "I'm going to peek inside, but don't worry guys, I won't make you go in" ... because 5 seconds after peeking through the open side door of the empty chapel, I was ushering them in! The chapel was bathed in beautiful amber light & made for a beautiful set of images!

I love that Kelli & Kelley wanted to include their fraternity & sorority sweatshirts. Greek life was a big part of their time on campus, and I love that they honored it by changing into jeans & their sweatshirts. A Beta and a SKA are tying the knot! ;-)

Kelli + Kelley: Engaged ... sneak peek!

Here's a sneak peek from Sunday's engagement session with Kelli + Kelley. The full blog post will be up in a few days.

Pop Quiz: Where are we? =)

Happy Earth Day!

I would like to express my gratitude for this fabulous planet. I appreciate the beauty and perfection that surrounds me. All of nature is doing what it is mean to do, always balanced, always harmonious. There are so many wonders around us, and I try to appreciate them every day. I am often struck by the beauty & depth of clouds, by the infinite appearance of the ocean, & by the first green blades that push their way through Spring soil. I adore the squirrels that sprinted across the University of Redlands on Sunday, the mysterious animals of the deep sea that I watched a documentary about, & the hummingbirds that I often see near my house. There is an intricate and intimate balance to this world. I am grateful that I get to be a part of it.

"Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars ...
& if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful.
Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to
become prime ministers or presidents & they are not going to become rich &
they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers - for no reason.
It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are."

New York readers...

I'm going to be in New York in early June, and would love to do a NYC photoshoot. If anyone is interested in booking an Engagement or Anytime Session, please email me!

Caryn + Eric: Engaged!

When you are 15 years old, some things never cross your mind. Caryn and I were good friends, at 14 ... 15 ... 16 ... 17 years old. During all of our note passing and story writing, there was one thing we never thought of ... one scenario that never crossed our minds. We never could have imagined that more than a dozen years later, she and her fiance would meet me in Laguna for a beachside engagement session!

Here are a few of my favorites...

Tiffany + Michael: Engaged!

Tiffany and Michael have known each other for more than half their lives. They met in junior high, and did not begin dating until long after high school. It is fun to work with a couple who has such a long & solid base of friendship supporting their love. The engagement session was extra special because Michael is home on military leave, and is soon headed back overseas until their wedding!

Tiffany and Michael - I had a lot of fun with you, and can't wait for your wedding! =)
I can't decide which of the next 2 images I like better. I am absolutely in love with the rim lighting on this image, but ...
... I also love the romantic sun flare! Which one do you like better?

Caryn + Eric: Engaged ... Sneek Peek!

I recently had the fun of reconnecting with my high school friend Caryn for an engagement session. Caryn & I spent high school writing notes to each other & composing elaborate stories about our lives & the people we knew. The story would go back and forth between us as we each added a new segment. It was little silly, yes, but it kept us entertained! =)

Here's a sneek peek of Caryn and Eric's engagement session ... more to come soon!

Desert Glam

I have always loved abandoned houses. I love the de-evolution ... the beautiful decay ... the patina of character.

I forget exactly how the idea for the Desert Glam photoshoot evolved. Did I have the location in mind? Did Jena want to do a hair & makeup portfolio shoot? Did Megann want photographs for a modeling portfolio? I wish I could remember how the idea came forth, but, really, that part doesn't matter. What matters is that a few weeks ago, three friends went into the desert for a fabulous, forlorn photoshoot.

I want to thank Jena Forrest for styling the shoot. Jena did Megann's dramatic hair & makeup, and styled Megann throughout the day. The photoshoot wouldn't have been half as good (not even a third as good ... maybe not even a quarter as good!) without Jena's talents. Jena is a professional stylist who is available to be your hairdresser -- or to beautify you for your wedding/prom/date night or anytime you want to look hot! (For more details, please email her at j.makeup@yahoo.com, or call her at 562-704-2670)

I want to thank my sister-in-law Megann Norred for being an awesome model! She totally worked it! Thank you Megann for being willing to climb up on crumbling fireplaces, and fearlessly venture into the Glass House. You looked gorgeous & did an amazing job!!
